We often look for fun family-friendly events in Milton Keynes that the boys might like. This weekend we took both of them to Bar Bar in Wolverton who were hosting a music event celebrating the Hip Hop scene in Milton Keynes.

Break To The Beat is a creative project highlighting Hip Hop culture and the influence it had on Milton Keynes during the early 90s. Those involved in the project are currently documenting Hip Hop and its journey in the UK and also the Milton Keynes scene.

The project is currently being exhibited at Bar Bar in Wolverton and will be there for a couple of months. There is a full wall length of artwork, photos, posters, and information about the project for you to enjoy whilst you have a coffee.

The project also runs “Coffee Breaks” a social event with vinyl DJ sets playing Funk, Latin, Soul, Hip Hop, Reggae, and Drum and Base. This event is currently held at Bar Bar Black Sheep in Wolverton every second Saturday of the month.

It’s great to see another social event on our doorstep, and to be hosted at an independent coffee shop in Milton Keynes is awesome.

We were lucky to attend the last one at the weekend – check out the video below. It was so much fun. The boys had a blast dancing away to the 90s classics. The music was new to my boys but for me, at 40, it brought back some fond memories of this music era.

The event had a good family-friendly vibe and was full of smiles and laughter, a great way to start to the weekend.

The Break To The Beat exhibition at Bar Bar runs until 31st March and the next “Coffee Breaks” event is Saturday 11th March 1-6PM.

We are always on the lookout for fun things to do with the boys which are local to Wolverton and Milton Keynes. When events like this pop up we jump at the chance to get them involved. It’s a great way for them to experience and be inspired by new things. On this occasion, my boys loved it so much that the first thing that was said when we arrived home from them was “Alexa, play Hip Hop music.” I wasn’t having any of it though, I got the RUN DMC records out!

Keep Supporting Local.
